What it is for

Transport keeps the school's routes and stops, the services that run them and the children expected on each service. A service runs in one direction and has dated timings. Whether it runs on a day also depends on the school calendar and any cancellation.

The Transport role maintains the network and travellers. A bus supervisor opens today's bus rolls and records what happened on the bus. Families and students read the travel the school shares through the portal. The school can change role grants, and protected children remain withheld from readers who are not named on their records.

Set up and change the network

Close the old timing before opening its replacement: two timings cannot cover the same day. A cancellation can be withdrawn. Stops describe a place in words; the network does not show a live bus position.

Arrange a student’s travel

  1. Open Travellers and select the student, then open Transport on their record.
  2. Record the service, stop, weekdays and dates for regular travel. Use a one-day booking for travel on one date.
  3. Correct an arrangement with its replacement, or cancel a booking that is no longer needed. Check the service runs on the dates and calls at the chosen stop.

The bus list is derived from the arrangements and bookings on that day. Bus operators in Settings chooses the year levels an adult meets at the stop. An individual arrangement or booking can use that default or record its own answer. Home draws attention to cancelled services, bus rolls not taken, children not met and requests waiting on the coordinator.

Mark the bus roll and hand over safely

No child starts ticked. Saving with children still unticked asks for confirmation and records those children as not having travelled. A saved bus roll is read-only apart from the separate Not met and handover actions. Saving and handover check the supervisor's current check; Not met remains available to raise the alert.

Choose only an adult offered under Handed to. If no authorised adult is recorded, ring the office. There is no override. The record says when the bus roll was saved, not when each child passed a stop.

What families and students see

The Buses section on a child's portal page lists services, stops, times and cancellations. A responsible family member can read the bus marks by day and use Ask for a seat to send a request to the coordinator. A student sees their arrangements and cancellations, without the bus marks or the request action. A request is not a confirmed seat until it is approved.

Exchange with the transport provider

An administrator configures the provider under Bus operators in Settings. Once connected, Transport provider shows when the exchange ran and how many rows were sent, received or set aside. Exchange now runs it again. Review each held row's reason; record a valid arrangement or dismiss the row. A provider response naming a student, service or stop the school cannot match is not silently accepted. Protected students are left out of the outgoing bus list.

Training notes

Allow thirty minutes for a coordinator and fifteen for a bus supervisor. On a test school, arrange travel, open the expected bus roll, leave a child unticked and read the confirmation, then record Not met and an authorised handover.
