How to read the table

Each row is a starting role and lists the areas where it holds a permission. An area may grant only a restricted task, a configuration setting or a read: appearing here does not grant every screen in that area. Use the capability index for the exact permissions. A person who holds several roles receives their combined permissions.

IT holds no capability on the person record, by design. Administering the system is a different job from reading a child's record, and a school that wants its IT staff to read it grants that on purpose.

Role guides and training

Each role has a guide of the tasks it does, one at a time, in the documentation at "/docs/guides". Families have a guide of their own. The training plan at "/docs/training" has a short course for each role, and each module chapter's training notes name the course to use. This guide is organised by module and by journey, and the role guides are organised by who you are, so use the one that fits the question.
