What it is for

Boarding brings together each house's boarders, the roll calls due today and the sign-outs and sign-ins at the house door. A student joins a boarding house from their own record. The house list uses that membership on the school's day, so staff do not maintain a second list of children.

The Boarding role reads the houses and takes roll calls and house movements. An administrator sets up houses, roll call occasions and kiosk credentials. The school can change these grants in Roles. A protected boarder is withheld from a reader who is not named on their protection.

Take and correct a house count

Open Boarding and choose the roll call under the house. Check every proposed house state before saving. Unaccounted is a decision the house parent records, with a note saying where they looked; Kestrel does not infer it from an empty tick. A correction writes a new house mark and keeps the original. Notes have restricted access.

At the house door

Record a sign-out when the boarder leaves and a sign-in when they return. The collecting adult must be one the record allows to collect them. A sign-in needs an open sign-out. If the latest movement was entered in error, void it with a reason; it remains in the history.

These entries record two moments at the house door. They do not track the boarder's location. The current screens record house counts and movements and configure leave kinds; they do not provide a family leave application or host approval process.

Set up the house

An administrator opens Boarding houses in Settings, then Leave and roll call to add the occasions the house counts on. Each occasion has a name, time and weekdays. The lists begin empty and entries can be retired. House kiosks issues a credential for one house; copy its secret when it is shown and revoke it when the device should stop working.

Training notes

Allow twenty minutes with a house parent. Read the current house count, then take the next real roll call together. Practise corrections on a test school and check that the earlier mark remains visible.
